A history museum, a brewery museum, a garden with statues of Grard, open air museum Bachten de kupe (old flemisch village), museum of priest- poëet Cyriel Verschaeve, an artisanal patécompany with a nice café and a litlle shop ...this is Alveringem. Vacation home “The Five Senses” Our house is situated in the centre of Alveringem. It is typified by strange (characterized) heads in the front. When you look back in history, this house was a brown café in the early years of the 20th century. But its history goes much further. Descendants of the last caféowner even claim that in the time there were underground places, gangs to the city hall, named Hofstede Wyckhuize (build in1608) that is approximately 300m away from “the five senses” and was a shelter for attacks of armies.
hof van Wyckhuize/ Café de oude Kuiperij in De Vijf Zinnen (beginning 20th century)/ De Vijf Zinnen (now) Much more we can’t tell you about these legends and stories because there isn’t exact proof. The fact is that the front of “The Five Senses” radiates something historic, that charmes many people! This is not just some vacation home! Ground floor:
